Sylania Jenkins-Burnett, MSW

Social Worker, Logos CDC Community Counseling Services

Personal Background:
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, my journey into mental health therapy was sparked by my early work with women and children experiencing homelessness. Witnessing the struggles of low self-esteem, substance abuse, domestic violence, and parent-child conflict, I was inspired to help individuals change negative behaviors and overcome barriers that perpetuate cycles of homelessness.

Education and Qualifications:
I hold a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Program Planning from the School of Social Work at Temple University College of Public Health. This foundation has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support and empower my clients through their healing journeys.

Professional Experience:
With over 6 years of experience in private practice, I have dedicated my career to providing compassionate and effective therapy. My practice is rooted in a commitment to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of mental health and wellness.

Specializations and Expertise:
I specialize in Family Therapy, Substance Abuse, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and Trauma. Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each client.

Philosophy and Approach:
My therapeutic approach is integrative, combining elements of the person-centered approach. I believe that wellness encompasses not just the absence of mental health concerns but also living a satisfying, healthy, and productive life despite them. My philosophy is that mental health and wellness are intertwined, and achieving balance in both leads to greater self-awareness and healthier responses to life’s challenges.

Success Stories:
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is receiving updates from clients and families who have been discharged, sharing their progress and happiness. These moments underscore the impact of our collaborative efforts and the resilience of the human spirit.

Personal Interests:
Outside of work, I enjoy meditating, reading, attending musicals and theater, traveling, and spending time with my family. These interests not only provide me with a balanced and fulfilling life but also influence my empathetic and holistic approach to therapy.

Clientele:
I work with individuals, couples, and families, including children aged 5-11 and teens aged 12-18, providing a safe and supportive environment for healing and growth.

Professional Development:
To stay abreast of the latest developments in mental health, I actively participate in trauma workshops, attend seminars and online courses, and am a member of various professional organizations. This commitment to lifelong learning ensures that I can offer the most current and effective therapeutic interventions.

Personal Statement:
To potential clients, I offer this message: I am 100% committed to your healing journey. Therapy is a collaborative process, and together, we will identify your strengths and develop strategies to achieve your goals. My personal philosophy is that therapy is about building resilience and coping skills to navigate life’s ups and downs. I invite you to embark on this journey with me, toward a path of healing and wellness.
