Parenting Coordination

The purpose of Parenting Coordination is to provide a child-focused alternative dispute resolution process. A Parenting Coordinator assists the parents in creating or implementing a parenting plan that works for their family. Their function provides education and recommendations, taking into consideration the interests of the parents and the court. Each family’s action plan is unique and tailor-made depending on the family circumstances.

The Parenting Coordinator’s principal role is to:

1.To assist the parties in achieving a smooth-running parenting time plan with minimum conflict and were agreed upon, recommending to the Court modifications in the plan to better achieve the desired contact between the child or children and their parents or guardians and/or

2.To help the parents to devise a parenting plan that will assist the parents or guardians to reduce the trauma the children experience in high conflict family situations and to assist the Court to find a workable temporary or permanent parenting plan that accommodates the needs and abilities of the children and their parents or guardians and/or

3. To maintain an appropriate demeanor, preserving confidentiality within the confines of the Court Order, and to promote awareness by the parents/guardians of the best interests of the child, or children.

The success of Parenting Coordination is in the “Not”

Not going to court
Not calling your attorney
Not litigating
Not calling the police
Not missing holidays and special occasions
Not fighting with the ex-spouse/ex-partner
Not being constantly frustrated and angry in regards to co parenting

How do you get a PC?

If you feel that you and your family could benefit from a Parenting Coordinator, you need to talk this over with your attorney. Parenting Coordinators operate only with a Court Order that specifies their “job” as requested by the Judge in your case. They function as a representative of the Court.

This process is confidential with exceptions in compliance with mandatory reporting statues

Parenting Coordination is hard work for the parents and healthy for the children.
